22:T5d9,Er is weinig bekend over trompettist Billy Brooks. Als solide sessiemuzikant sinds de jaren '50 speelde hij met Lionel Hampton, Cal Tjader en natuurlijk Ray Charles, die hem begin jaren '70 tekende bij zijn sublabel Crossover Records. Dit werd gevolgd door Windows of the Mind in 1974, zijn enige soloalbum. Het album werd opgenomen in Los Angeles en mede geproduceerd door Ray Charles. Het was een kundige mix van big band jazz en funk, met een uitstekende kopersectie en een ongeëvenaarde ritmesectie. Onder de muzikanten bevonden zich bassist Larry Gales (Thelonious Monk), drummer Clarence Johnston (Freddie Roach, James Moody), saxofonist Herman Riley (Side Effect, Pleasure, Earth Wind & Fire, Letta Mbulu) en gitaristen Jef Lee (Roy Ayers, Sylvia Striplin) en Calvin Keys.
