22:T736,In 1971 werd George Duke, die net zijn tijd bij de Mothers of Invention erop had zitten, geëngageerd door het Cannonball Adderley Quintet. Vanaf april van dat jaar maakte Duke in korte tijd twee opnamen die bij de release in 1973 als dubbel LP (tegen de wens van de artiesten overigens) een belangrijk statement zouden zijn. Op Chapter One van zijn fusion autobiografie, Solus, probeert Duke, samen met de skeletbemanning van bassist John Heard en drummer Dick Berk, de nieuwe compositorische filosofie uit die hij had geabsorbeerd van zijn werk met Adderley. Het album was verplicht om een jazzy omgeving te behouden, wat geïllustreerd wordt door de harmonisch vloeiende piano-improvisatie op Love Reborn en de door bop beïnvloede bedrijvigheid van The Followers. Maar de plaat geeft ook het belang aan van de keyboards in al hun verschillende contexten - de funky rock van Au-right, en het smeulende, dromerige gevoel van Peace, bijvoorbeeld.
