'Swampland' was nog niet eens uit en toch waren The Scientists al een begrip in Perth, Australië. De drummer van de Hoodoo Gurus zat in de band die toen ook al geleid werd door zanger-gitarist Kim Salmon. Op de concertaffiches stond vaak bij The Scientists: rock 'n' roll in the tradition of The Groovies and The Heartbreakers. 'Not For Sale' bestaat uit live opnamen (voornamelijk een radio concert voor 3RRR) en oefenruimte tracks in de stijl van de briljante 'Frantic Romantic' single. Met opmerkelijke covers van The New York Dolls, The Groovies en The Undertones ('Teenage Kicks').
